Limit data sharing in your organization
Paperpile lets members share libraries and folders across your team, but sometimes you'll want tighter control over what team members can see and share. This is common when a single team spans multiple institutions, includes external collaborators, or handles sensitive work. Team-wide security and privacy settings let admins control member visibility and how content is shared inside and outside your organization.
Team-wide security and privacy settings
These settings apply to your whole team, so only admins can change them. Go to Settings > Team > Team settings > Security and privacy to find them. Admins of institutional or enterprise licenses can also open them from the admin dashboard.
- Member visibility: Turn on Users can see names and emails of other members to let members see one another. Turn it off to keep names and email addresses private—useful when one team brings together people from different institutions or collaborations who shouldn't see each other's details.
- Internal sharing: Turn on Users can share libraries and folders with the whole team or organization to let members share with everyone at once. This works best when your team is relatively small and actively works together. Turn it off for larger teams, where sharing with everyone by default is rarely useful.
- External sharing: Turn on Users can share content with other users outside the team or organization to let members share with people outside your team. Turn it off to lock down external sharing and keep all shared content within your team.
